Tell us a little about yourself!
I work as a Sales & GTM Advisor for a boutique consulting firm a friend and I started called Dynamic Growth Partners. I’m originally from California, grew up in San Diego, and lived in SF for a handful of years before moving to Seattle.
What led you to start this consulting business, and what keeps you passionate about it?
After working for over a decade in scaling enterprise software companies (most recently Databricks), I wanted to go back to the most exciting times of a company's journey, which to me is in the earliest stage (seed, Series A). I’ve always been motivated by working with smart and creative people working on hard problems, and this business has provided me the opportunity to do this daily.
If you had to describe what you do in one sentence to someone unfamiliar with your field, how would you explain it?
We help technical founders take their software products to market and help them reach their next meaningful revenue milestone with hopes to secure their next round of fundraising.
What’s one piece of advice you wish more clients knew before working with you?
Hiring the wrong sales leader can be catastrophic to your business and can set you back many months (and dollars). In sales hiring, it’s easy to think success at another company will directly translate to your business. However, in early-stage companies, the skillset needed to be successful at 0-1 is much different than what’s required to scale.
What’s something about running your own business that surprised you the most?
The power of reputation. Over 50% of our business comes from existing client referrals, 25% of those being based in Europe, a market we haven’t specifically focused on nor would’ve had access to otherwise.
What’s a recent book, podcast, or experience that has influenced how you approach your work?
Multipliers - Liz Wiseman. She emphasizes the idea that true leadership is not about being the smartest person in the room, but rather about bringing out the best in others and fostering an environment where collective intelligence thrives.
What’s a fun or unexpected skill you’ve developed because of running your own business?
I’ve found myself reviewing many Figma mockups for website launches. Not having a design background made this very intimidating for me to start, but I’ve now seen countless enterprise software websites and as such developed a decent sense of how to communicate succinctly to our intended audience.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work that helps you recharge and stay motivated?
Movement and food. The first helps offset the second. I try to keep a regular workout schedule, be that the cycling (in good weather), cross country skiing, pickup basketball, or an occasional volleyball league. It’s easy for me to be on Zoom calls 6-8 hours per day, so I need an outlet!
Outside of that, I love to eat and always have a list of restaurants I’m eager to try. I recently discovered Old Salt, a phenomenal bagel shop in Ballard.
If you weren’t in your current field, what other career path do you think you’d be on?
I think it would be really cool to have a shellfish and seaweed farm.
Tell us about Luna!
Luna is a pandemic pup and the unofficial mascot of Dynamic. You can find her curled up in Office 107 on select days or dragging me to every cafe in Cap Hill or Belltown that has previously given her treats!
